TSW: Cargo Line Series – The Story So Far!

With Train Sim World 5 now with us and the Skyhook crew hard at work developing new content, we thought now would be a good time to reflect on the Cargo Line series! As well as giving you an update on Volume 3…

Cargo Line Vol. 1 – Petroleum

Back in December 2023, the series began! The hero of this particular pack, the VTG branded TEA Tankers which came stocked with five liveries and 4 brand-new scenarios for Great Western Express and Skyhook’s own, Midland Main Line. The scenarios in this pack allowed players to complete short distance deliveries all the way to long journeys between commuter lines heading to London. Cargo Line Vol. 1 provided us with a truly unique experience in bringing these iconic tankers into Train Sim World and allowed us to see exactly how they have been used through their time as a key part of the UK’s oil and fuel industries.

Here’s a quick look at the Class 66 traction carrying the tankers through the Midland Main Line route!

Cargo Line Vol. 2 – Aggregates

The second addition to the series rolled out in May of this year. This time, the HOA Bogie Hopper Wagons took centre stage. These wagons first appeared back in 2006 and were designed for hauling sand & stone all over the United Kingdom. We brought 2 variations of the wagons for the purpose of replicating operations in the Southern and Midland regions of the UK rail network, they also came in several conditions to amplify the realism. The DLC’s new scenarios allowed players to experience the complete hauling process, from loading the wagons at the depot, to transporting the cargo across passenger main lines and unloading them at their final destination.

This release was combined with a significant update to the Midland Main Line route and we made sure to take full advantage of the improvements & new additions. For example, the new Mountsorrell Railhead became a key part of Cargo Line Vol. 2 as it serves as the starting area for scenarios along the MML route.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the additions we made to Midland Main Line as well as all the details of the Cargo Line Vol. 2 release, Skyhook’s Head of Trains (unofficial title) took us through a full playthrough of a Cargo Line Vol. 2 scenario where he explained it all! So, what’s next?

As we announced recently, Skyhook are hard at work on developing Cargo Line Vol. 3 & Vol. 4. We aren’t in the position to announce a release date just yet. However, we’re getting closer. Here’s a small hint as to what we’ve been working on for Volume 3… any guesses as to what it could be?
