Skyhook's commitment to enhancing wellbeing in the workplace
As we're in Mental Health Week, we thought we'd share how Skyhook is continuing to take steps to further improve the wellbeing of the team!
Company Culture + Wellbeing Support
Skyhook believes in zero “crunch culture”. Game development is a wonderful industry to work in but like all professions, there are sure to be times when deadlines are looming. Stress and anxiety related issues can appear during times like these, so we do our absolute best to ensure all members of the team have the support they need. It is vital that if anyone is struggling, they don’t have to think twice about speaking to someone. Our Head of Studio is a trained mental health first aider and will always make time to go through any concerns an individual may have.
All members of permanent staff are signed up to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Our package includes a 24/7 confidential helpline, CBT sessions, online info and much more.
We continually make improvements to our benefits scheme. For example, this year we increased our annual holiday allowance. All employees are also offered:
- Regular salary reviews
- Holiday buy back scheme
Furthermore, due to the cost of living crisis we provided staff a one off payment to help ease the burden. Carrying on from this, we are currently planning to offer a financial wellbeing workshop to all. Everyone will be free to schedule a confidential 1 to 1 session with a financial advisor to cover whatever topics they would like to cover, this could be anything from pension contributions, personal savings, insurance cover etc.
Celebrate Success
We have an internal newsletter which is sent out monthly to all members of staff. Each edition includes a staff news section in which we share the team’s achievements, whether it’s a work anniversary, completion of a training course; we make sure to let everyone know that we recognise and appreciate all signs of progression!
When the time comes, we also hold events for our launches. For example, back in 2021 we celebrated the release of Lawn Mowing Simulator, to honour this incredible achievement we celebrated as a collective! We recognise that strides of this nature are not due to the efforts of a few but the whole team.
Social Events + Interactions
The Skyhook team regularly organise social events, whether it’s a Summer Social, Christmas do, heading out for lunch for a drink after work. It’s important to all of us that we focus on building relationships with each other, both in and out of work. Even for the members who work remotely, we always make an effort to include them in the planning for these events. Remote working can leave some feeling a little isolated at times, especially if they live too far away from the office to make the daily commute. For that reason, if we can help with sorting out their travel/accommodation for big get togethers, we’ll do all we can to include them!
Skyhook even took part in a charity 5 a side tournament recently. Those who took part enjoyed the event enormously! Click here to find out more.
We have more internal events in planning, as well as opportunities to participate in more charity events open to the team later in the year!
With our growth phase underway, now would be a great time to hop onboard the Skyhook train! Click here to see our current vacancies.
