Jacob & Ceyhan’s work experience at skyhook games!

This week we welcomed LMA students, Jacob & Ceyhan to the Skyhook Games Studio. As we’ve almost reached the end of their placement, we asked them a few questions about their week with us!

How have you enjoyed your time here at Skyhook?

Jacob:

Its been amazing! When I initially stepped into the office it was a big moment for me, I was even more sure that the games industry is where I want to be. I love the personality & warmth that covers the environment, the overall feeling of being here has encouraged me even more to reach my goal of working somewhere like Skyhook in the future. In this week alone, I have improved my technical ability within software and my overall creative decision making. Seeing how the team create assets and their processes behind each prop has really opened my eyes to how much I have to learn, but in a hopeful way that I can replicate one day.

Ceyhan:

The week has been challenging, yet rewarding. I am glad that I was put into a situation where I was able to learn new skills with a software I am not familiar with in such a small amount of time. As well as the work environment, Skyhook’s team members have made the experience feel grounded & achievable with my future outlook on job prospects within the games industry. Learning from the members of the Skyhook team has been mind boggling, yet has made me more excited to practise and approach aspects of my creative process, such as texturing in a different way.

How has your time here helped you?

Jacob:

Aside from inspiring me greatly, I have received excellent feedback and guidance from various employees. I have been able to upgrade the skill level of my entire kit whilst improving my knowledge of different kinds of software. This will be greatly beneficial and lead me to becoming a more flexible artist.

Ceyhan:

It has helped me realise that when I put my mind to it, I can really buckle down and achieve results I am happy with, even with the lack of knowledge using the software I’ve used. Learning new terms & techniques from members of Skyhook has helped. I’m going to research ways I improve my artwork to help push myself to the next level.

Was there any aspect of your learning that you particularly enjoyed?

Jacob:

The entire experience was a well rounded enjoyable time. Personally I enjoyed seeing the standards for game artists. I never realised how much I had to learn. Seeing all the processes & techniques that go into asset production has inspired me even further to improve my abilities.

Ceyhan:

My favourite aspect was being introduced to new techniques and standards, which the Skyhook team follow. It has made me understand how much time and effort goes into creating art for games. I’ve seen how much learning I have yet to do, which will help me when I’m working on my own projects in the future.

Throughout the week, Jacob & Ceyhan shadowed a few members of the art team. They shared their expertise which has been built up over the numerous projects we have brought to life. Visit our Case Studies page to find out more about some of our work!
