Planning, creating and implementing game design activities for Skyhook Games. The Game Designer will be expected to take ownership of sections of the project under guidance from the Lead Designer and work collaboratively with all disciplines within the studio. You will also be required to take features and sections of the project from pre-production, through development to release standard quality.

key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Designing and balancing gameplay features and mechanics from initial documentation to final implementation in engine.
  • Driving gameplay and content design through all development phases from concept to launch, and beyond
  • Overseeing and providing critical feedback on the design of game features, level design, gameplay etc.
  • Identifying areas of improvement and solutions to enhance functionality and aesthetics
  • Working with internal departments to maintain game’s progress and evolution
  • Playing a key role in reviewing the gameplay to ensure player experience is maximised
  • Planning and overseeing projects from start to finish
  • Applying artistic and programmatic perspective to work
  • Playtest and balance gameplay mechanics

  • Team player – Can work across all functions and experience of gaining buy-in and developing strong relationships
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of game design from concept to launch
  • A passion for all forms of games and industry experience within a games development studio
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine and/or Unity


  • 3D modelling package experience (Blender, Max or Maya) to a whitebox/blockout skill level
  • Experience in Jira and Confluence 
  • Experience with Blueprints in UE 
  • Experience with or playing Simulation games
